NA is for anyone who believes they have a problem with Drugs of any kind to have. The addiction experiences of the members range from illegal drugs such as heroin, cocaine, hashish or party drugs to legally consumed drugs or alcohol. NA is for all addicts, regardless of age, race, social background, religion, or sexual orientation. Only that is enough Wish, to quit drugs.

No! Anyone who believes they have a drug problem of any kind is welcome at any meeting. However, we refer guests and accompanying persons to ours "open meetings’, which non-addicts can also participate in.

We attach great importance confidentiality – What was said in the meeting and who was present is not disclosed to the outside world. This protection of personal anonymity guarantees one safe frame. Anonymity also ensures an atmosphere of equality: social status, origin or personal details play no role in the meetings.

Our Public Relations takes anonymity into account in a special way. We want to spread the word about Narcotics Anonymous, but we only speak about NA and do not appear by name ourselves

Narcotics Anonymous was founded in Los Angeles (USA) in 1953. However, Narcotics Anonymous emerged from Alcoholics Anonymous as a separate community. That 12-step program was adjusted for NA; we use the term addiction instead of alcohol.

Today NA is spread all over the world. There are over 76.000 NA meetings in 144 countries, including 4.300 in Europe (as of April 2018). In Germany and Austria, around 330 meetings are currently taking place weekly in around 90 cities.

We understand addiction as a disease in which it does not matter which drug or combination of drugs is used. The use of the term "disease" is based neither on a specific medical nor on a special therapeutic meaning of the word. It is based solely on the long experience of NA members that accepting addiction as a disease is effective in helping them find a path to recovery from that disease.

The Narcotics Anonymous program aims to complete abstinence from all legal and illegal drugs, including alcohol away. However, abstinence is not a requirement for participation in NA. Every addict is welcome at NA, even if he or she is not yet clean or in a substitution program. Relapsed addicts are always welcome too. We only ask them: "come back and try to come back clean”. We also ask that no drugs or drug paraphernalia be brought to meetings. Maintaining the safe, drug-free space is an integral part of NA.

Many groups offer open meetings on a regular basis (e.g. once a month) and are marked as such.

However, NA meetings are an offering for addicts. Therefore, the right to speak is reserved for those affected. You can of course ask questions before or after the meeting.

Every addict is welcome at NA, no matter what drug he or she has used, and regardless of race, race, religion, or sexual orientation. At NA are all ages represent. Even very young addicts are welcome; there are leaflets specifically aimed at young people and legal guardians.

Participation in NA is always voluntarily.  We have in meetings no member lists or participation control. If addicts with a Therapy or probation condition come to NA, some groups offer the opportunity to Certificates of Participation by stamp and show of hands. This is a voluntary offer of the respective meeting - please ask in advance if your client needs a certificate.

NA is open to all addicts. The only requirement for participation: the to stop using drugs. Abstinence is not a requirement for coming to NA. For medical questions We do not represent an opinion regarding substitute drugs, substitution or medication. However, our goal is complete abstinence from all drugs, including substitute drugs and alcohol.

NA rejects any financial support from outside and finances itself exclusively through own donations from members. A donation box is passed around during the meetings for voluntary and anonymous donations by the participants.

Proceeds will pay for meeting room rent, coffee, and literature, as well as all other Narcotics Anonymous services and offerings, such as our public relations.

In the context of the NA program we speak of spiritual principles. By this we mean values ​​such as openness, willingness, honesty, etc. NA has No opinion on religious or other questions. No! Narcotics Anonymous is grassroots democracy organized, there is no leader or guru. We work clean unsalaried and offer help self-help by and for those affected. All offers at NA are free and are funded by own donations on a voluntary basis. Membership is too voluntarily.
